With headlines blazing about murders and shootings, authorities across the country are waging a war against illegal guns. Gun charges are extremely serious in nature and require a tough defense for the accused person. Laws surrounding the purchase and sale of firearms are very specific, and the repercussions for being found guilty of breaking these laws can be severe. Recently a man in Philadelphia was charged with various criminal offenses in connection to gun laws.
The 30-year-old man was charged with nine felonies on Oct. 10 for allegedly buying guns illegally for a felon and for giving false statements to police. According to authorities, the man confessed to buying nine firearms for a 44-year-old man from Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, in exchange for money. While the purchase of the firearms for himself was completely legal, the man reportedly broke the law by buying them for a man who legally could not purchase a firearm.
The Philadelphia man is specifically accused of purchasing a 9 mm Beretta handgun that the Bala Cynwyd man later used to kill a Plymouth Township police officer.
The Philadelphia man was held on a $1 million bail at his arraignment.
Such serious weapons charges can result in long-term imprisonment and other life-altering consequences. Those facing gun charges must confront the accusations, educate themselves on their rights and know the intricacies of the charges they face. It is often very wise to seek experienced legal counsel when one is facing gun charges.
