Pheonixville man charged with DUI after crash

For those in the Philadelphia area, a DUI charge can lead to a number of serious consequences, from license revocation to jail time. For an example of what may happen if facing a DUI charge, Philadelphians need look no further than a recent accident that occurred in nearby Phoenixville, where police allege that a night of drinking may have led to extensive damages.

The accident occurred on Feb. 24 at a Phoenixville intersection, when a 29-year-old man rear-ended a car that failed to move as soon as the light turned green. According to police, the man intended to make a right-hand turn at the intersection when the crash occurred. After the collision, he allegedly exited his vehicle without placing it into park beforehand, allowing the vehicle to continue through the intersection until stopping in a home's front yard.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the driver seated on the curb. According to the police, the driver smelled of alcohol and had difficulty standing. When questioned as to whether he had consumed alcohol, the driver reportedly admitted to having four drinks before leaving his wife's residence earlier that night and heading for his own home. After failing several field sobriety tests, he was taken to Phoenixville Hospital for a blood-alcohol test and then charged with DUI, careless driving and several other offenses.

Being charged with a DUI can have long-term consequences for those in the Philadelphia area, but defendants do have the right to fight the charge in a court of law. They can also attempt to plea bargain in an effort to avoid a conviction that may lead to restrictions that can affect the defendant's personal and professional life. In some cases, it is even possible to succeed in having the DUI charges dismissed.
