Philadelphia ambulance driver fired as a result of alleged DUI

Philadelphians will be interested to learn of the recent firing of an ambulance driver from Philadelphia. This incident reveals that being charged with a DUI can be enough to cause considerable damage to a person’s life, even if the person is not convicted of the alleged offense.

The ambulance driver was transporting a patient from St. Mary Medical Center to a facility located in Montgomery when he was involved in a minor traffic accident. His vehicle hit a curb and as a result suffered a flat tire. Police arrived on the scene soon thereafter and gave the driver two field sobriety test, which they allege he failed. As a result of the incidence, the driver is facing charges for reckless driving and driving under the influence.

In addition to the drunk driving charges, the driver was terminated from his job the day of the incident. He had been working there for two years. The driver may face a tough battle to find similar employment for several reasons. First, with the present state of the economy, it is difficult to find employment. Second, due to the nature of his job, if he is convicted of a DUI it may be hard if not impossible to find another job driving an ambulance.

In short, a DUI charge alone has changed this man’s life. Whether or not he is convicted, he has already faced life-changing penalties. If he is indeed convicted, the ramifications may be even more severe. For people in a similar position, exploring all their legal options is a must.
