Many people consume alcohol every day in Philadelphia. Afterwards some of them decide to drive. As a result many people are charged with a DUI every year. Some have consumed more alcohol than others, though. The law understands that and has divided the consequences for a DUI into three categories with increasing penalties for people who have a higher blood alcohol level and for those with multiple DUIs.

Many people in Philadelphia enjoy an alcoholic beverage or two from time-to-time. Alcohol is present at many parties, sporting events, and concerts, in addition to numerous bars and restaurants in the city. While it is perfectly legal to consume alcohol, many of the choices people make after consuming the alcohol are illegal. One of these decisions is driving a vehicle after intoxication, which may result in a DUI.

In Philadelphia, as throughout the rest of the United States, there has been a great effort toward stopping drunk driving. Despite these efforts, people still do drink and drive. If their BAC is above the legal limit, then these drivers are charged with DUIs. After being charged, the criminal justice proceedings begin.

There are many people in Philadelphia who are charged with DUIs each month. In order to address this issue, the Pennsylvania legislature has enacted many laws to punish those who drive under the influence. The police are also trained to determine if a driver is drunk and make a DUI arrest based on this assessment. There are many indications that police look for when determining whether a driver is drunk. If the person is swerving in traffic or is involved in an accident, police will generally conduct tests to determine whether alcohol is a factor.

Drivers suspected of DUI injure two officers in accidents

There are many car accidents in Philadelphia each year. There are also many factors that cause those accidents. Sometimes the accidents involve drivers who have been suspected of drinking. In these cases, many times the person suspected of driving is charged with a DUI. However, just because there was an accident does not mean that a driver will be convicted of DUI. After being charged, the defendant goes through the criminal justice process and has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty -- even if the alleged victim is a police officer.
